We booked tickets for a Plate and Pitchfork farm dinner as soon as we moved to Portland. Plate and Pitchfork is a summer dining series that, in its own words, “reinforces the connection between the farm and the food on your plate.”
Along with eating under the stars (and sun) at farms in the Portland region, diners are treated to creative intreprations of seasonal foods by some of the best chefs in Portland (in our case, Cathy Whims of Nostrana and Dolan Lane of clarklewis). And, as an added bonus, part of the ticket cost is directly donated to food access and education organizations including Oregon Tilth, Foodworks Farm, and the Sauvie Island Center.
Last Sunday’s dinner, organized by Plate and Pitchfork, was a gem of a dinner in its own right. Originally scheduled to be held at Sauvie Island Organics, Plate and Pitchfork had to move the dinner to Smith Berry Barn due to zoning dilemnas related to events on Sauvie Island.
