It's bittersweet to look at these magnolia blossom photos now, knowing that the magnolia blooms have run their course for another year (with the exception of trees at higher elevations: I did see a few gorgeous blossoms near Forest Park yesterday). At their peak, earlier in March, the blossoms featured an ombré of pinks and rich reds, the petals delicate yet sturdy on the branches, standing proudly upright. Two days after taking these photos, about half of this tree's blooms had fallen on the ground, crushed and slippery under pedestrians' feet. Though it's a short season each year, it's one that can be remembered with photos, until next year.
