Maui in March: Tropical Plants & Lush Vegetation

As soon as we deboarded our airplane, eager to stretch our legs and refresh our lungs with warm, tropical air, Maui's vegetation enveloped us. The airport is mostly open to the elements, meaning that exiting the cramped plane deposits you onto the airport's lanai.

We landed in the early afternoon, and quickly had to adjust our senses to the bright sun, the towering 'Iao Valley in the distance, and to the vegetation everywhere, both in the airport and outside. While I recognized a few plants and flowers (orchids, bird of paradise, hibiscus) throughout the week, I was mesmerized by all of the unfamiliar colors and textures, especially the brilliant purple-magenta hue so many plants radiate. These photographs were taken at Kula Botanical Garden, Garden of Eden Arboretum (located on the Road to Hana), and around our hotel's grounds.
